Former Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the Saturday, August 15, 2026, governorship election.

Obaseki, in a congratulatory message, described Adeleke’s victory as significant, saying it reflected the wishes of the people of Osun State to entrust him with another four-year mandate to govern the state.

According to the former governor, the outcome of the election also demonstrated the futility of what he described as “anti-democratic forces” deployed by desperate politicians to subvert the will of the people.

“Your victory sends a clear message to Nigerians that when the people stand together with courage, determination and a common purpose, they possess the power to defend their democratic choices and compel political leaders to act in the best interests of the people,” Obaseki said.

Reflecting on his own political experience, the former Edo governor said a hard-fought election ultimately decided by the wishes and resolve of the people should serve as a reminder to public office holders that their loyalty must remain with the people.

He stressed that elected leaders must prioritise the interests of the people over those of privileged individuals who benefit from access to political power.

Obaseki therefore congratulated Adeleke on what he described as a “well-deserved victory,” while wishing him a successful second term in office.

He expressed confidence that the Osun governor would continue to dedicate himself to the development of the state and the advancement of the welfare and aspirations of its people.
